This is a variety of record books and rosters from the Kentucky State Guard. Included are a ledger listing expenditures (1861); a journal listing issues of weapons and equipment by county and unit (1861); and a record book from the Quartermaster General's Office regarding equipment issues, mustering authorizations, and furloughs (1861-1863). Later records include a general roster book (1878-1880); the order book of Company B of the Second Regiment, known as McCreary's Guards, which contains orders, correspondence, and minutes (1894-1897); and a roster of commissioned officers (1901-1909).

Historical note: In 1860 the Kentucky Militia was replaced by the Kentucky State Guard. During the Civil War the State Guard suffered from the same divided loyalties which were indicative of Kentucky as a whole. It was reestablished in 1878, with the primary focus on controlling civil disturbances including feuds, riots, strikes, and lynchings. In 1912 the State Guard became the Kentucky National Guard.
